Celebrating 30 Years of the Americans with Disabilities Act: How It Has Changed the Landscape for Employing People with Disabilities
August 20 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 made discrimination based on race, religion, sex, national origin and other characteristics illegal yet excluded language adding those same protections for individuals with disabilities. It wasn’t until 26 years later that The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law creating a comprehensive prohibition of discrimination on the basis of disability similar to the Civil Rights Act. Title I of the ADA addresses employment, yet even after 30 years, we continue to see the workforce participation rate for people with disabilities at half the rate of people without disabilities.
